A trip to Penang

We have a trip to penang on 30 April-2 May 2010. This trip is organized by ID students. There is 16 people(2 lecturer+2 GD students) has joined this trip. It is about observing people, heritage buildings and the street of penang. Now, lets have a look of pictures captured by students.

艺总会，复古之夜
为了迎新2010年四月份美术系新生的到了，美术系的学长们以全新力量创造了一个主题为艺总会的复古之夜。
大家参与的目的除了迎新新生，当然也因主题的关系，把自己打扮成复古年代时装参与并让整个夜晚更加充满气氛。（如果没有复古服装不要紧，最重要人要到哦！）
当晚有少许节目，游戏，抽奖游戏和晚餐供大家分享。

From 1st to 8th March 2010, 28 students from Art & Design Department, 1 student from Media Studies Department accompanied by 5 staffs from Art & Design Department have embarked on ‘Art & Culture Learning – A Journey to China’. After a year planning, numerous fund raising activit...ies, contribution from participants and donations from generous individuals and companies, including the Art & Design Department, International Relations Office & Students Affairs of New Era College, they managed to gather enough fund for the short educational tour.

The activities in Beijing including visiting the Academy of Art & Design of Tsinghua University, Beijing National Art Gallery, 798 Art District, Summer Palace, Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, Temple of Heaven, The Great Wall of China, National Stadium Bird’s Nest and National Aquatic Center The Water Cube.

The combination of ‘Old and New’ Beijing was an eye-opener, startling to some and surprising to the rest of us. Visits to Tsinghua University and 798 Art District has been a wonderful experience because the participants learnt about the development of Art & Design in China and hopefully it will inspires them in their future undertakings.

The participants also managed to plan their own unguided tours around Beijing during their free hours and they travelled with complete confidence. It was a good opportunity for them to learn to be independent in new surroundings and facing challenging situation with courage and determination. A cold weather (4 to -6 degrees Celsius) made life miserable to some and brings happiness to the rest of us. The unexpected friendly guest (snow) was definitely a bonus and had given the participants the most unforgettable memory to bring home. Although the snow almost made us miss our flight back to Malaysia, the fast thinking and act of responsibility shown from the marketing team of Beijing Far East International Youth Hostel enable us to catch the flight on time. The additional unlisted itinerary was to ride the speed train to Tianjin and hence, opened up our eyes on the development and advancement of the public transportation in China today. The 120km journey from Beijing to Tianjin was cut short from the original 2 – 3 hours to 30 minutes.

The trip is meant to give the participants a chance to exchange experiences and views of art. It is a matter of fact a priceless opportunity which gives a newfound appreciation and leaves a profound impression throughout their life, especially in the world of Art and Design.

Special thanks to Siow Yin Yoong, Head of Art & Design Department and colleagues who supported us to the very end, and those who helped me untiringly namely Loo Chee Yee, Wong Poh Leong, Yeoh Yin Yin, Tan Lih Chyin, Ooi Ci Ling and Ambrose Poh. And last but not least, thanks to all especially the participants who helped in materializing the Beijing Trip and thus, made it a successful one.

Next trip? Tungguuuuu...... ;D

Peri-fy Your Art Competition

It is an annual event for Nando’s to hold the 'Peri-fy Your Art' competition. In line with 2009’s Clucking with Mother Nature campaign, Nando’s has themed its artsy craftsy competition to 'The Art of Recycling The Nando’s Way'.

Contest judges include Angela Hijjas, Fazli Othman, Samsudin Wahab & Noor Mahnun with Mac Chung Lynn (CEO of Nando’s Chickenland Malaysia)

To enter:
1. Get an entry form from any Nando’s restaurant (nationwide)

2. Choose the category you would want to participate (you could only enter ONE category), either:
- 2-Dimensional Hanging Display
- 3-Dimensional Art Sculpture

3. Begin your journey in creating the art piece, themed 'The Art of Recycling, the Nando’s Way'

4. The submitting art piece, must be accompanied with a completed entry form AND a 4cm X 9cm card bearing:
- Artist full name and NRIC
- Original artwork title
- Concise artwork rationale in English or Bahasa, clarifying the artist’s interpretation of the theme

The closing date is July 18. The award presentation will be held on July 30 at NN Gallery, KL.

What Is Ceramic
Ceramic is the art and science of making objects from clay mixtures, and with the combination of water, wind & fire, it will demonstrate an excellent strength and hardness properties, which is very essential to our daily lifestyle. Ceramics are all around us, includes things like tile, bricks, tableware, sanitary ware, sewer pipes, and other industrial products. They are all chemically resistant and can withstand a wide range of temperatures from very cold to very hot. Ceramicists and materials engineers are the people who design the processes in which these products can be made, create new types of ceramic products, and find different uses for ceramic products in everyday life.

（新纪元讯）新纪元学院美术与设计系与世界接轨。继2007年本院商学系与英国格罗斯特郡大学(University of Gloucestershire)联办商学系3+0学士学位课程后，美术与设计系于2009年9月和英国另一所著名学府西英格兰大学 (University of the West of England, Bristol) 联办两项3+0荣誉学士学位课程，分别为平面设计荣誉学士学位课程(BA Honours Graphic Design)，以及平面设计荣誉学士学位课程（动画组）(BA Honours Graphic Design with Animation)。西英格兰大学是英国最大及最受欢迎的大学之一，现有30,000逾名学生在不同学院就读。西英格兰大学特别引以为傲的是教学质量一直都领先所有新兴大学, 在每年的百所大学教学质量排行榜上位居全英国大学的前五名，在这样的教学环境下，必能培养出优秀学生。西英格兰大学的艺术学院更是“皇家视觉艺术学会的基金会”在英格兰地区成立的两个视觉艺术中心之一，也只有伦敦与布里斯托(Bristol)两地才具备此种追求卓越的专业水平。西英格兰大学的艺术学院是英国西南方最大的艺术学院，共拥有3,000名大学部及研究所学生。此学院特别提供给动画、绘画、电子艺术、及印刷等领域的学生专属的工作室，学生可在此学习专业知识。

Forever Memory of Dato’ Sim Mow Yu Memorial Service
2009年2月5日晚上9点15分，普受国人爱戴景仰的华教元老拿督沈慕羽局绅，在自己的住家辞世，享年96岁。我们怀着无比沉痛的心情，共同为一生奉献华教事业，并作出巨大贡献直至鞠躬尽瘁的沈老进行哀悼。

回顾沈老对母语教育的奋斗与争取历程，举其荦荦大者如：

1963年4月，开始出任全国华校教师职工总会首届主席；

1965年，发动争取华文为官方语文运动，获得热烈反应。同年，获选出任教总主席职；

1966年2月，虽出任马青副总团长，惟同年10月18日因力争华文为官方语文开除党籍；

1968年，与已故董总主席林晃昇领导独大运动；

1987年，在大马政局动荡下，时任教总主席居已届75高龄，却于当年10月28日为当局执行对异议人士大逮捕的茅草行动，被内安法令扣留，直到1988年6月方给予有条件释放；

1994年5月，以82岁高龄放下领导了教总奋斗了近30年之主席职；

1999年，林连玉基金会以一生为华教努力奋斗精神特颁予“林连玉精神奖”。

1994年，沈老虽御下教总主席职，然依然受董总及教总委为会务顾问，活耀于华教运动的各个重要场合，直至燃尽生命之火。

出任的社团职务包括：

历任全国华校教总主席、独立大学有限公司副主席、全国华文独中发展委员会副主席、马来西亚福建社团联合会副福利主任、马来西亚晋江社团联合会副主席、马六甲华校校友联合会主席、培风校友会副主席、马六甲晋江会馆主席、福建会馆总务、华校教师公会主席、孔教会主席、马六甲公立第一小学、培德小学、培风第一小学、平民学校及晨钟夜校校长、兼任晨钟青年部长、合唱及戏剧团长。

第二届全国青少年美术营大功告成

第二届全国青少年美术营终于成功地完成了。在这里我们所有的营委都非常感谢每位能够抽空参与我们活动的营员，同时恭喜你们成功地与我们一起完成这个难忘的三日营和一些得奖者。当然也需要感谢我们的每一位学长们和营委们在这三天里的付出，辛苦大家了！！！另外我们要特别感谢的就是我们的老师们，谢谢他们的教导和带领。在这三天里，如有一些对大家觉的不满的一些问题，希望大家可以多多包含；当然我们也一定会改进以让我们下一届的美术营能够做得更加好。

对于每位营员们的作品，大家可以放心因为我们将会把你们完成的作品寄至你们的学校或住家。同时也会把有关的照片一起寄去。当然所有有关的照片也将会被post到我们的blog里去。到时你们可以在里头“偷” 照片哦！
